Frequently Asked Questions
What makes for a good question?
Any specific issue that is important to you and others which allows for different opinions can be the basis for a good question. Ohpynez requires open-ended questions to be non-categorical. Questions that are unbiased, relevant to individuals in the selected area, and allow for a spectrum of responses (with at least two clearly distinct positions) are more likely to provide meaningful results. Additional information about question requirements and examples can be found on the create a question page.
What is a non-categorical question?
Asking a question on Ohpynez that can only provide categorical data will produce meaningless results because ordinal data is required to order opinions. Ordinal data is required to both order and categorize data whereas categorical or nominal data can only be used to categorize data. "What is the best flavor of ice cream?" is a categorical question. The results from this question can be tallied but there is no intrinsic order to the results. While some flavors may be more popular than others, it is impossible to say that any one flavor is better than any other flavor. Alternatively, "What size should the chocolate chips be in mint chocolate chip ice cream?" is a question that will produce ordinal data. The results can be categorized (e.g. small, medium, and large) and there is a clear rank order to the results (i.e. small < medium < large).
Can I edit an answer after it has been submitted?
Any content that another person may interact with can not be modified after it has been submitted. If a substantial change was made to a question or answer, any prior interactions with that content would then potentially be inaccurate representations of the views of those persons. An answer that no longer accurately depicts your opinion may be removed from circulation via the remove an answer page. A second opportunity to answer the question will not be provided.
Can I limit access to a question to a specific group of people?
Currently, all questions are asked publicly and can be viewed by anyone. For each question, only the individuals whose locations match the question's area, which can be a country, state or city, are allowed to participate. The ability to ask questions privately to a defined group of individuals and additional measures to ensure their anonymity are being developed specifically for use by large groups and organizations.
Do I have to participate to follow a question?
You do not have to participate in a question to follow it. For any question, reminder emails can be scheduled to be sent at a specific date and time or when the question accumulates a specific number of answers or interactions. Additionally, all questions that you have participated in will be listed on the participated page.
Is Ohpynez moderated?
The community is allowed to self-moderate, however, Ohpynez reserves the right to moderate content. If you come across inappropriate content, please check the “report this question/answer as inappropriate” box near the offending content and then the report button. Examples of inappropriate content include, but are not limited to:
- Content that does not express an opinion
- Content that is clearly promotional in nature
- Libelous statements
- Personally identifiable information, specifically contact information or names of individuals who are not public figures
- Plagiarized content
- Content that is intentionally offensive or otherwise violates the Terms of Use
Questions and answers that are reported risk censorship without notification. Your answer or expressed level of agreement with an answer will not be submitted when reporting content. Please remember that all opinions, even those that greatly contrast with societal norms, can and should be expressed in a civil manner.
Can I create multiple accounts?
There is no need to create more than one account. Additional methods to verify accounts may be implemented at a later date.
Why am I unable to update my location?
In order to discourage individuals from changing their locations on a whim to appear as a local resident elsewhere, there are limitations on how frequently you can change your location. This policy was enacted to help protect the integrity of Ohpynez's data and any inconvenience is inadvertent.
My town is not listed as an option. Can it be added?
Yes. If your city is not yet listed as an option, please use the contact page to submit your request. Only locations within the United State of America will be made accessible at this time.
